Flashback to Animal Art, Twinkling, and Mingling
As we continue to cheer our FIVE Year Anniversary, it's fun to take a look back to see how the party first got started. It's been said by some that Pussy & Pooch has more parties than some nightclubs. Looking back into the P&P time capsule for December 2007, it's easy to see how we earned that reputation. Wow, did we ever start off with a bang! Launching right into our very first Downtown Artwalk on Dec 13, 2007 with an curated collection of animal themed artwork and photography by local LA artists Robert Vargas, Suzi Moon, Emmeric Conrad, and famed dog photographer Frank Bruynbroek. Our festive Artist Reception was our very first official event, and the first of what would become MANY more.
At the time Artwalk had maybe ten percent of the crowd Artwalk nights now have. Still, we were right in the heart of it and knew we wanted to make our contribution to the art community, adding our own unique twist. After the success of our first event, we lovingly dubbed our multi-purpose space of the store (after one of our founding cats) the Bailey Gallery and went on to host more than a dozen successful Artwalk evenings for nearly two years, featuring the likes of Max Neutra, Kelly Thompson, Walt Hall, Michael Pukac, Matteo, and more. Their animal-themed fine art was showcased to the likes of thousands of in-store visitors.
We also jumped right into the Holiday spirit and utilized the December Artwalk to kick-off our very 1st "12 Days of Twinkle", which included our 1st Mutt Mingle & Holiday Portraits later that month... We were packed with people and pets and festive treats and deals, and had more than a few furry visitors wearing their Holiday best, like Frances the Frenchie in her Mrs Claus dress (pictured above, right). Consequently, Frances and her new friends were among the first to chow-down at the Pawbar.
It was a very magical time back then, and as we reminisce we are reminded of our many friends who were once there and now sadly are no longer with us, like our original founding mascot Cosmo the Jack Russell, pals Toscane the Bull Terrier and Louis the Sphinx (our 1st kitty visitor). Many, many more that we've seen over time grow from playful puppies and kittens into downtown dogs and lofty cats. It's truly a wonderful feeling to see a community come together over our shared love of animals and grow with all of our uniqueness.
So five years later, as we get prepped for this December's Artwalk blended together with our Holiday Meow Mingle & Kitten Adoptions, our 6th Annual 12 Days of Twinkle, and our Holiday Mutt Mingles... We will raise a special toast to YOU, all our wonderful customers from over the years, acknowledging the joy your personal stories and experiences have brought to the P&P Team... and in appreciation of your support!
Do you have a special P&P memory of Artwalk nights in the Bailey Gallery, Mingles, or other festive photos of your pets having fun at P&P to share?
We want to see them! Post them here, or on our Facebook page.
